If you’re looking for a safer, but just as effective eczema product alternative to Cerave cream, try these 3 lotions/creams instead! These have been tried and true on many I know with eczema or very sensitive skin, and I can honestly say after using these on my son when he had eczema as a baby (due to a short and random food sensitivity), they were game changers!!! Here’s a few facts and reviews on these products and why I love them!
I’ll be doing a bigger post on eczema in the future on causes, remedies etc…but for right now what you need to know is:
- In order to reduce or get rid of eczema, you need to find the source of what’s causing it…it’s triggers. In other words, until you fix the inflammation at the source, a cream might be a great addition, but won’t heal it all the way. Personally from my research, I’ve found the biggest triggers and causes of eczema to be: food sensitivities or allergies, vaccines, and toxic overload on the body like mold, heavy metals etc.
- One of the biggest issues with eczema skin to know is that, “Atopic dermatitis breaks down the stratum corneum, the outermost epidermal layer of the skin. This dense layer of skin is responsible for preventing epidermal water loss and serves as a barrier to bacteria, irritants and allergens. People with atopic dermatitis (AD) have a weaker skin barrier than people with uncompromised barrier hydration” This is why a really thick lotion does wonders because it helps in rebuilding up that barrier!

Number 1 eczema product pick! the Eczema Honey Co Original Skin Soothing Cream: this stuff is the BOMB!!!!!! Back when my boy had had eczema all over his body, I found that the trigger was a specific food he was eating…after removing that from his diet, after a few days the red spots on him started to not look inflamed and went down drastically. However, it didn’t get rid of it entirely. It wasn’t until I bought this cream and tried it on him that it went completely away in less then a week!!! I was amazed!
The consistency of this cream is unlike anything I’d tried before. You can tell it leaves a residue on your hands even after wiping it off; I’d always have to wash my hands after applying on him. Its very very thick, has a sweet subtle honey smell to it, and was SUCH an effective barrier balm!!! I could instantly tell by feeling his skin how hydrated it felt and how much softer it was! It takes a little while to “soak in” as that’s kind of the whole point is to provide a thick barrier for the skin. I’d always apply after bath, before bed which seemed to work well! Out of these three products, this one is the most “heavy duty” in my mind.
Just make sure to store in fridge for longest preservation and stir before applying. Can be applied everywhere on body, but because of the very small amount of phenoxyethanol in it, I wouldn’t recommend applying around mouth or on hands on children! (since hands always go straight to mouth)
Number 2 eczema product pick! Pleni Naturals Barrier Balm: I actually found this brand almost a year and a half after my son’s eczema issues, BUT I Have let 3 friends try it now with various skin problems, including chronic eczema, and it’s worked wonders!!! One baby in particular had very inflamed red eczema spots all over, I gave it to the mom, and by the next morning she texted me to say she was already seeing a huge difference!!
This one soaks in a bit better and doesn’t leave as much of a residue. Very subtle vanilla scent, pretty thick, and very versatile!! I seriously use this as my everything balm! Diaper cream, dry hands, windblown cheeks, you name it! The ingredients in this one is my favorite of the three, no phenoxyethanol so I’d feel comfortable (and do all the time) using on a childs face and hands! Doesn’t need to be refrigerated like the honey co one, and lasts foreverrrr. A favorite product in general for sure!!

Number 3 eczema product pick! Weleda Nourishing Body Cream: After having a random flare up due to accidentally eating his trigger food (his eczema had been gone for a while), I used this product instead once and it worked well! VERY very thick lotion consistency, creamy white, takes a little rubbing to really rub in and all over, and it’s very similar to their skin food cream. Does a really good job of locking in moisture, doesn’t take forever to “soak in”, acts more like a really heavy duty lotion, and has no synthetic ingredients, so definitely safe for applying anywhere!
This is random but just a tip, the metal bottle gets hard to squeeze so I used the david’s naturals toothpaste “key” that comes with their toothpaste and just roll it up as I use it! So nice!!
