Potty training a toddler and want a safe, healthier, and organic product list of potty training supplies? Here’s your survival guide with everything you’ll need including “non toxic” cleaners, GOTS organic underwear, healthier treat/ reward options and more!
I’m currently finishing up the process of potty training my little boy, and it’s been…fun. lol Lot’s of accidents, laundry, and running around with no pants on. haha These products have been life savers for me though! Hope it helps you too!
Organic Toddler Underwear
I’m going to be honest, there’s not a whole lot of research out there that I know of studying the typical chemically treated clothing and how that effects the skin/private parts it touches or those chemicals it was treated with potentially off-gassing. There’s some regarding links to it irritating eczema, but that’s about it. That’s my disclaimer before I say, my first preference, especially for kids, would still be organic underwear! (I’m just making it clear, that’s rooted in over caution, not necessarily sound research lol) At the very least, your chances of having a skin reaction or potential rash is far lower, and it’s undoubtedly lowering (even if by a little) their “toxic load” and exposure overall. (which is even more important for children because their bodies can handle a lot less then an adults) It’s unfortunate that true organic underwear is so pricey, so if you’re able to do that, wonderful! If not, don’t be too worried about it!
With that said, not all brands that claim “organic” cotton are equal! I personally only trust the GOTS organic third party certification because it provides set standards and accountability to brands. OEKO-TEX is also a good certification, and it’s even better if a brand has both! I landed on City Threads organic underwear because it’s GOTS certified, and a privately owned USA based company with stricter standards for all their clothing they sell, not just organic!
I got both their boxer briefs and briefs in various colors, and I especially love how soft they are!! (also got my girl a pair or 2 in their panties and they’ve become her favorite because they are the softest around the edges/ leg holes which she is growing increasingly particular about!) Just know the darker colors bleed slightly first wash! I only wish they had a tag-less certified organic option! Overall they have washed well, held their color, and they are pretty thick and good quality feeling! No smell to them right out of the packaging!
Check out City Threads HERE or buy them on amazon HERE
Other great brands to checkout are Lucky and Me, and Hanna Andersson which are both in my amazon storefront HERE
Safer Training Pants/Pull-Ups
Some might not use disposable training pants in their potty training supplies, but they’ve really come in handy for us! We’ve used them whenever we’ve gone on car trips or had to attend events of some sort where we wouldn’t be as able to take him as quickly to the bathroom.
I wanted to find a few brands that didn’t contain as many harsher ingredients/materials/chemicals, especially since it’s on such a sensitive part of the skin! I liked these by Bambo Nature! They held up well, weren’t paper thin, were soft, and we didn’t have any leaking problem! They seemed to come up a bit higher then others which I liked because it seemed to help them hold up longer and not leak.
Some other great brands to try as well are Attitude Living, Eco by Natty, and if you’re looking for a quick in store option, Honest or Seventh Generation aren’t the cleanest but better then conventional brands like pampers. All these brands are also available on my Amazon Storefront under the kids and babies section HERE.
Potty Rewards/ Treats
An essential on the potty training supplies list!! Doing a reward system for every time he went in the potty worked really well for us. I knew I wanted something small and a sweet treat but healthier that I wouldn’t mind dishing out 10 times a day. haha
I found this brand UNREAL and it was perfect!! Various of their products have different certifications like non-GMO, fair trade, vegan etc. My favorite thing is it’s naturally colored and doesn’t use synthetic food dyes and the sugar is organic. They taste just like m&m’s but with cleaner ingredients. My son LOVED them!!
They actually have a large selection of different types of chocolates so obviously had to try several and have some treats for mom too. lol Because let’s be honest, potty training any kid deserves some rewards for you too! My favorite were the peanut butter cups by far!! My husbands favorites were the coconut chocolate bars and the caramel nut bars because they were like snickers!
Another great brand I’ve tried and loved is HU Kitchen. Their chocolate bars are amazing!!! They also have “gems”, or smaller pieces that would work for rewards!
Thrive Market sells these brands or you can get them off of Amazon in my amazon storefront HERE.
Flushable Wipes
I would first like to say…I really don’t usually endorse or recommend using “flushable wipes” ever because they have been proven now to not really be as biodegradable as they are marketed as and actually cause a lot of clogging problems in the sewers etc. (more sources on that in sources section below) I definitely don’t plan on using them long term or permanently, however, for this short time of just starting potty training they have really come in handy! If you’re looking for a better safer brand, I’d recommend ECO by Naty.
I wanted to have flushable wipes on hand because there was several times just wiping with toilet paper for number 2 wasn’t clean enough and would get on his underwear (which would just lead to more laundry), and if we were not at the house it was awkward/hard to have to use a regular wipe then throw it away.
I like ECO Naty’s third party testings, ability to be composted, eco cert certification, and relatively simpler ingredients list. They didn’t feel too wet or leave his bottom dripping (could easily put on underwear right after using), worked really well and gave simplicity.
You can get these off my amazon storefront under the Baby & Kids section HERE (available outside the USA)
Safer Cleaning Supplies For Potty Accidents
What’s a potty training supplies list without stain removers and cleaning supplies? lol Here’s my top favorite go-to products:
All Purpose Sprays: my go to’s have been the Azure Clean Standard household cleaner for cleaning up on wood floors and random surfaces especially, Force of Nature for disinfecting in particular, and the master blaster by Pure Haven.
The Azure household cleaner has no scent to it really, suds up just a little when you rub it around, and has cleaned up accidents well. I’ve used it mostly on hard surfaces and for cleaning bathrooms etc.
The Force of Nature cleaner smells like pool water, but I trust it to disinfect things really well. I don’t typically use this by itself to clean something but use it as an after spray sometimes to ensure everything is disinfected on any surface (including carpet)
The master blaster I use most as a fabric stain remover, but I also used it on a carpet accident and it improved the smell and helped get the pee stain out!
Other cleaners I love and recommend would be the Aspen Clean bathroom cleaner and the Attitude Living All purpose cleaner is also great!
Stain Remover: Again the master blaster has been a good one, Attitude Living’s stain remover has been excellent, Azure Standard’s stench X has also been phenomenal, and the Mama Suds powder has been a great option for clothes that especially need soaking! If I had to pick my most favorite, probably would be the Attitude Living or Azure Standard ones!
If you’re looking mostly for a smell remover with some stain remover capabilities for spot cleaning on carpet or on clothes, I’d recommend Azure Clean. If you’re looking for a more all around scent and stain remover for clothes, then I’d recommend Attitude Living.
The Mama Suds I found didn’t make as much of a difference when added to the washing machine (except for canceling out any bad scents), but it worked best on helping remove stains when soaking a clothing item. Think of it like an oxi powder with no added scent to it.
Overall I found the biggest factor for especially removing poop from underwear was washing it off immediately then spraying with one of these sprays or soaking until throwing in washer later then washing immediately.
Laundry Detergent: My top favorite laundry detergents in general are definitely Mama Suds and Attitude Living. I’ve recently started trying the Pure Haven powder detergent and so far have been really impressed with it as well! All have done a good job at removing stains in general and cleaning clothes well. If you’re looking for the one that leaves the most scent after drying try Attitude Living detergent.

Other Random Potty Training Supplies We Loved
This potty seat off of Amazon that has a ladder attached and sits on any normal toilet
The Usborne book “Where does the poop go?”, extremely informative and very interesting actually about how waste gets cleaned etc and how important poop is to different animals and what it means to them etc…
Well, that’s everything! Hope you it helps you survive potty training the less “toxic” way! Share with someone who’s potty training kids or is trying to mentally prepare to. lol
